Ahold Delhaize – one of the world’s largest food retail groups – needed a top-notch leadership development programme for its top talent to prepare them to lead a function. Next to collaborative and experiential group learning, it wanted to offer individual learning through personal coaching to enhance the learning curve of its director-level talents. As the group is international, an innovative e-coaching approach fitted the bill.

As always, we began with listening to our client and the involved partners to understand the overall objective to specific learning outcomes desired. We proposed a design which featured our highly experiential and collaborative working methods, working closely with Ahold Delhaize & its partners to ensure that the programme was precisely tailored to their needs. The resulting Gearing up for Growth programme was a combination of classroom learning, peer circles and individual coaching.

The Gearing up for Growth programme was evaluated best in the history of Ahold Delhaize’s learning and development programmes. This was undoubtedly due to the unique design of cognitive and transformational learning combined with group and individual learning. Every participant was matched to an individual coach in their own first language. Really sustainable learning and growth was achieved.

The highly personal character of the programme was greatly valued. This enabled the building of trust between the participants in the group. They felt better equipped for their challenging jobs as leaders to lead and develop others Their relationships have improved, and a constructive and connective communication style has been adopted. We measured the participants’ growth based on their personal learning objectives.
